“I have been a city girl my entire life. Well, except for a month’s harrowing aberration to the Free State town of Harrismith in my early twenties but that’s another days story. The things I loved most about city living was having an endless variety of gastronomic options, going to a regular cinema nouveau movie and finding treasures in quirky 2nd hand bookshops.
So when I moved to the small West Coast village of Paternoster for Love (with a capital L), I was sure these things would be part of the sacrifice.
I was delighted to find that great food and movies have a home at Gelukkie in Paternoster!
Ruth & Andrew create a charming atmosphere and the evening is infused with their signature relaxed and elegant style. Going to movie night at Gelukkie has become a much anticipated occasion in Paternoster. The movie is carefully chosen to be beautiful, funny and/or moving. The menu is selected to compliment the movie and orchestrated perfectly as a feast for the eyes and taste buds.
Think; The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and a Delicious Indian inspired curry with the trimmings! This is one of my all time favourites. *Disclaimer : so far.
A delightful highlight is mingling with the local regulars, who are an interesting cast of characters all on their own. It is an evening where friends and visitors can meet, share food and a little bit of culture.
Going to a movie at Gelukkie means my partner and I pack our wine and Labrador, Emma, and enjoy an evening of feasting and friendship. Once we are full up we can settle into the cozy, well equipped cinema for an experience unlike any other – certainly like nothing you would ever find in the big city.
These are things that make me happy to be a small town girl in Paternoster!”
